In a (shockingly) boring UFC debut Lombard goes down via split decision to Tim Boetsch. While he has an outstanding highlight reel of KO's, I've always thought that Lombard was a can crusher. I did want to see him fight in the UFC to know for sure though as he has a legit background. Thoughts on why he looked so hesitant/bad tonight? Where do you think he goes from here? Gotta say I'm happy that his hype train got derailed tonight after all the stories I've read about him being a giant douche to training partners, fans, reporters, so on.

In his defense, he WAS training for Brian Stann.

Very true. The earliest report on Boetsch being named his opponent was June 6th/7th I would think that's enough time to make some adjustments but who knows how much that affected his performance. I was still very shocked with how little he attacked. I certainly don't think he's going to lose all his fights or anything like that (I picked him to win tonight). I just don't see him beating most of the higher ranked guys at MW.

Tim Boetsch is the 185 lb. version of Keith Jardine 5 years ago. I don't know how he does it, but he keeps beating people I don't think he should. Nothing about him really stands out. And now he left Dana without a title match for Silva.
Apparently last night Dana said even though Lombard lost, Weidman and Boetsch are not #1 contenders. What the hell are they gonna do then? Silva's 37 fucking years old. You can't put him on the shelf until next year because everyone's beating everyone in the division.

That's funny I never thought of him like a young Jardine but I can see what you mean.
Yeah I would think to a certain point they could plug any number of guys into the title picture and they would at least be an understandable pick. Winner of Bisping Stann, Weidman, Blecher, Belfort, Boetsch (some are way more deserving than others but you have a good amount to choose from). Like you said if they use up too much of Silva's remaining time fighting on waiting for a "perfect" opponent they are gunna lose out in the long run.
