Americans are so adorable with their 1950's beliefs of homosexuality.
Honestly, I learned a long time ago that pretty much everything you purchase from a corporation will inevitably go to something that you at some point will disapprove of. I also find it hilarious that so many people that are vehemetly opposed to this are wearing Nike shoes, or are the first in-line to shop at Walmart. . . Or the fact that they eat at a fast-food joint despite the maltreatment of animals before killing them. See? We could do this forever. And we won't even get into some of the other amazing political groups/parties these corporations will back.
I can't wait for mid-August for our newest fake moral outrage.

This is another New Coke. A seemingly disastrous marketing move that turned out to make the company millions of dollars, without changing a thing.
If you can't see that whether you're a homophobe or you support gays...Chick-Fil-A has used your stance on the issue to make more money.

And we won't even get into some of the other amazing political groups/parties these corporations will back. I can't wait for mid-August for our newest fake moral outrage. There's a really great Canadian documentary called "The Corporation" that opened my eyes to a lot of this. "Fast Food Nation" is an excellent book for this type of stuff. I try to boycott a large of chain stores/corporations and shop locally as much as I can, but it's almost unavoidable to never put money into a coproration. The most we can hope for is more education on this matter, hopefully with this and Occupy. And before anyone points it out, yes, I do watch WWE, a major wrestling corporation. They're not as bad as say Wal-Mart since they're an entirely different beast altogether, but yes, even they do their share of fucked-up things. And it's also why I've gotten way more into indy wrestling and the past days of wrestling as well. But watching WWE is a cognitive dissonance I live with.

For me this isn't about what you think about Chik-fil-a, it's about all those people.
How can we live in 2012 and still have that many people against homosexuality?

If you don't like Chick-Fil-A, don't buy their stuff, then vote to deny healthcare to the fatasses who need a coronary from eating there. I've always wanted to laugh in the face of a dying whale. Also, why the fuck would any gay person want to work at this restaurant in the first place? That'd be like a Jewish person wearing Nazi-themed T-shirts.

Because people always have been and always will be ignorant and prejudiced. There's still people that are completely racist. Take my word on that one.

If old black people are racist, it's likely because they went through the days of Jim Crow, segregation and civil rights. They went through the kind of discrimination that makes what gay rights activists are going through right now look like a walk in the park.
As for the Chick-fil-A thing, I'm not gonna boycott over this. I'm not a fan of boycotts in general. I have absolutely no problem with people choosing not to do business with companies that are using their money to fund questionable organizations.
The problem with boycotts is what transpired yesterday. A bunch of people protested Chick-fil-A and now a bunch of people come out of the woodwork to support this organization by giving them what I'm assuming will be their most profitable day in the company's history.
What they do with that money is up to them. I may not agree with where it goes, but it's their business and their choice. And ultimately it's my choice whether I want to give them my business.

I think of it as a boycott but yes they can do what they want with their money. The negative publicity from this likely won't help in the long run. Also, all the people coming out the woodwork to support Chick-Fil-A lets me know where the bigots area. But if you think boycotts are ineffective, ask the people involved in the civil rights movement about that.

See, thats the problem. This isnt about personal opinion, everyone is entitled to that. Chick-Fil-A actively funds anti-gay groups and things like ex-gay camps. Having this guy speak out about "disliking" homosexuality just puts the cherry on top of all the other crap they do. People need to know what their money goes to. The gay community cant just "let it go", because this company is targeting them and trying to destroy lives. Yes, Mr. Cathy is allowed to have an opinion on a public manner. And yes, he's allowed to funnel his money into stupid projects that believe you can cure homosexuality. I think enough people are aware that Chick-Fil-A does this, and if they want to line up for a chicken sandwich, they're allowed to. You're getting mad and shouting hate just because people don't agree with gay marriage. Stop trying to pick a fight and do something to further your cause. Stop focusing on the opposition and promote your support of gay marriage. There will be other Chick-Fil-A situations. Stop giving them your energy and show your love and support for gay marriage. I believe it will be accepted nationally, eventually (and rightfully so). March on, my friend. Don't stop and point and whine. March on.

But if you think boycotts are ineffective, ask the people involved in the civil rights movement about that. I can't compare the Montgomery Bus Boycott to a people boycotting a business that serves waffle fries. That boycott was a direct response to segregation. This boycott is about a business giving a small portion of their profits to the organizations that promote an anti-gay agenda. Even if Chick-Fil-A closed down tomorrow, the Family Research Council and Focus on the Family will still get plenty of donations. If anything, whatever they get from Chick-fil-A is probably a small percentage. But I don't want to come off like I'm shitting on your point. It's just that these days, boycotts have grown largely ineffective.

Honestly, we live in a completely different social landscape that will not allow a boycott to be effective in any significant way. The bus boycott was a different kettle of fish on a different scale in a different time with a completely different type of industry.

They went through the kind of discrimination that makes what gay rights activists are going through right now look like a walk in the park. That's still not an acceptable reason. It makes as much sense as WWII-Korean-Nam vets are racist toward Asians due to war. As for "the gays", I don't hate them. I find any homosexual acts physically and mentally cringe-worthy (same with obese people), but at the end of the day I don't care what they do and as someone who's been made fun of for a lot of non-popular things that I happened to like (albeit on a more miniscule scale) I can relate to some small level and if they're happy, good for them.

It makes as much sense as WWII-Korean-Nam vets are racist toward Asians due to war. Racism can be driven by various reasons. It's not justifying racism as much as it's acknowledging where it can stem from. If a guy came back from Vietnam having an absolute hatred for Asian people, I don't know anyone would be surprised to know what triggered his newfound feelings. Traumatic experiences can trump reason. I would hate to be a Muslim American after 9/11. They did nothing wrong, but irrational rage and anger being terribly misdirected was happening. I wish society can be more tolerant, I have very little faith that will ever be a reality.
