I love music videos. They can be really, really good and very artistic while some are just completely dull and pointless. It all depends on the bands you listen to. Like if you listen to like Three Doors Down, don't expect a high quality unique music video. But if you listen to Tool which has great videos with stop motion animations or the Smashing Pumpkins with great artistic videos like Today, Tonight, Tonight, etc.

Thanks for that response. I never have seen any music videos from my favorite artists. But years ago my sister used to watch the music channel on TV. I remember some of the dumbest videos which made no sense in every sense of that term. *Points at Nickelback.
But feel free to point me towards any creative ones and I might just change my view

I'm 80s/90s child old and was a regular watcher of music videos in their heyday.
Compared to normal television and movies at the time, music videos were visually interesting. Now, they're not so comparatively impressive anymore.
In times before widespread internet, they were also a way to discover new music. Tool first got my attention with their awesome stop-motion animated videos.

Music videos are cool, adds a whole other dimension to music. They're like mini-movies and sometimes they relate to the music/lyrics, other times they're completely abstract. That said it can be cool to just zone out to a song and create your own visuals in your head and once you've seen the music video to a particular song it can be hard to do that as the video for it comes to mind so easily.

See I love Tools music videos but hate their songs. Do bands still make music videos anymore? And if they do where do they get aired now?

Some videos I don't mind, others I can't stand. It all depends on my mood. A lot of them I can live without but others like "Thriller" are pretty cool and I enjoy watching them.

In the 90s during grunge's heyday they were an art form and almost like mini-movies. Nirvana and Alice in Chains in particular had some great ones that really were visually arresting and complemented their songs quite well.
And geez bobholly, I find you don't like Tool now? My goodness how will we ever stay friends
I'm a loser and my sig takes up half the damn page. Learn from my mistakes and don't be like me.

A lot of videos don't get aired anymore and are exclusively on the internet through sites like VEVO. Like One Direction videos are never on TV but they're all over the internet. Basically the only videos broadcasted on TV these days are random ones from the 80's on a 80's variety hour on VH1 Classic.

Don't judge music videos on most of the crap being produced today. There's almost no budget for them, and the only ones who can afford to make videos are shitty bands to begin with.
But here is one of the ten best videos OF ALL TIME....
Does it make sense? No. Is it visually striking and keep your attention, YES!
Karma Police is another great video. It won't be noted as one of the best of all time, but its a personal favorite. Radiohead was great at just making simple, yet really fucked up videos.
Really, really dark humor in this, but still I think a great video.

In my opinion I like music videos because their like mini movies, and also I kinda like how some of the music goes with some of the scenes, even if they are weird and hard to get, and that's what kinda fascinates me about them.

Love the Soundgarden one. As a kid growing up in the 90's, I loved watching them. Now I really don't see many on MTV or BET or whatever station is supposedly a music channel. Some of my other favorites were the R. Kelly Down Low video, and the Outkast So Fresh, So Clean and Ms. Jackson videos. As has been said, it's like watching a mini movie to go with a song you like. Some were very good and well produced, while others may just seem average.
I thought the Rhazel "All I Know" video was absolutely hilarious btw.
One day I had it all, the next day I didn't. Please be smarter than me and don't find yourself in this same situation. Actually be a proper human being for once!

godammnit I hate Lady Gaga. Her music is crappy pop and she tries to make up for it by doing weird stuff and calling it "art".
At the end of the day, she is very good at crafting catchy pop tunes... and that's at least one reason I respect her: she actually writes her stuff. Plus the gal can actually sing.
The awkward moment you realize MMA just isn't for you.
