This could mean that Nintendo will stop making handheld machines for a while.

Nintendo abandoning the one market it still overwhelmingly dominates is a bizarre conclusion.

Nintendo abandoning the one market it still overwhelmingly dominates is a bizarre conclusion. This. Nintendo's bread and butter has been handhelds for years now. Ever since the original Gameboy, no one has touched them in that market.

I wish they'd put some more shit like older Pokemon games on the 3ds shop. I'm also waiting for some more stuff for the 3ds. It is an excellent piece of hardware with some good capabilities.

It has helped keep Nintendo in the black after the "failures" of the n64,Gamecube and Wii. Notice how I put failures cause all of the mentioned home consoles sold decently. But not at the levels of say the NES or SNES.

I'd hardly call the Wii a failure..... it was the top selling console of this generation.

They all sold decently but not to the levels of the NES or SNES. And while the Wii sold well hardware wise. The software under performed.

I wouldn't call the Nintendo 64 a success. It had some great games, but the Playstation kicked its ass all over the place.
But if Nintendo are in a bit of trouble, personally I'd stick to the handhelds. They are no 1 there and a distant 3rd on consoles.

The N64 stuck to carts which soured Square who moved FF to Sony, which probably didn't help. Sony's emergence also seemed to push the "kiddy console" that hurt the Gamecube (as well as Gamecube's tiny discs). And the Wii, despite it's console sales, alienated third party developers due to system limitations and a generally higher risk in developing games.

Aren't the new controllers for the Wii-U basically like little mini-DS's?

But the games never sold well. Most people I know with Wii's have more games off the virtual console store than actual games.
