WWE NXT: Redemption
February 1, 2012
Season 5, Episode 47
LIVE! From Omaha, Newbraska
by Emerson “I'm fricking exhausted” Witner
Yes, for those who can't figure it out, in 5 weeks this season will be one year old. In three weeks NXT turns 2 years old.
When you're the greatest columnist in pro wrestling today they got a name for you. They don't call you a great columnist, they call you Emerson Witner.
I would like to begin by thanking Phil Strum for correcting me and letting me know that Trent Barreta is actually from Mount Sinai, New York, as opposed to Mount Cyanide. Now if I can only spell his last name right two weeks in a row, we'll be good!
I apologize in advance if this review sucks. I have been working about 12 hours a day for the past week and a half and sleeping around 5 or 6 a day. So if this review isn't up to snuff, I apologize.
Well, it is after 10:00pm and WWE.com has not posted NXT yet.
10:40 and still nothing. Well I am gonna do something else (sleep) and see you later. I would like to say the last time I delayed this report I spent the night in the ER with a kidney stone...
-Fast forward 24 hours and it is the debut of Thursday Night NXT! I still have no idea if .com has put it up, so I just downloaded it.
-Pre show rant: I will hunt down everyone who voted NXT as “Worst Show” and make you actually watch the show. Also Tyson Kidd did not win Most Underrated, sadly. But hey! NXT represents! Jey Uso and Alex Riley in the Royal Rumble! And Tyler Reks and Curt Hawkins were on Raw on Monday!
-The show opens with Titus O'Neil coming to the ring. Josh Mathews and the man who locks his girls in the attic, William Regal, are on commentary.
Titus wanted the fans to sit down and shut the hell up while he was talking. That's good since they weren't making any noise.
Alex Riley stuck his nose in last week while Titus was teaching Percy Watson a lesson. This brought out Darren Young of all people. Darren says Titus should still be worried about him and they have unfinished business.
Titus said he whooped Darren's ass and Darren should go see his barber. Darren said he hated Titus because he was a loser and a waste of space, but now he respects him because he is a heel.
Darren sticks his hand out to shake Titus'. Titus doesn't care about the fans respecting or caring about him. Titus calls Darren a chump before shaking his hand and can appreciate that he is finally seeing the light.
Cue Percy Watson who points out that Titus got mad when Percy compared him to Darren last week and now the gloves are off.
Titus told him he is either with him or against him. Darren challenged Percy to get in the ring and Titus said he is soft.
Cue the #2 entrant in the Royal Rumble, Alex Riley. Riley told him to shut up and got in the ring along with Percy. Alex has a problem with how Titus handled himself after his victory last week.
They came to blows with the baby faces sending the heels packing. NXT Grand Champion Matt Striker then came out to make a tag team match as the main event.
Match #1
Tyson Kidd vs Trent Barreta
Of course I am serious.
Now that he is growing his hair out Tyson looks like Generic Wrestler #4. Trent and Tyson with a fast series of counters and reversals to kick the show off.
Tyson sent Trent to the outside and flew through the ropes with a suicide dive! Trent fell into the barricade, which moved into the knees of the fine fans in the front row. Both men, selling the whole time, just barely get in the ring before 10.
Trent with an Inzigiri, but Tyson with a spinning jump kick for a 2 count. Trent with a running one legged dropkick for a 2 count as the fans begin to get into the match.
Tyson gets out of a Tornado DDT and kicks Trent in the head. Tyson to the top, but Trent crotches him. Trent goes for a Back Suplex off the ropes, but Tyson elbows him off.
Trent regains momentum and runs up the ropes and hits a Hurricarana...but Tyson rolls through and picks up the clean win!
Winner: Tyson Kidd
Time: 4:10
Back from “commercial” and we are joined by Heath Slater who said he was forced to come back to NXT to show everyone how he defeated Trent Barreta for his first win since July.
Heath is showing it over and over and over again. Before Heath could say anything of any significance he is interrupted by Derrick Bateman.
Heath said Derrick is trying to steal his spotlight and if Heath wants to show Heath beating Trent over and over again all night long he will.
Derrick makes note that Heath has had a long losing streak and that no one came to watch that video. Derrick compares the Undertaker's WrestleMania winning streak to Heath's losing streak.
Heath says he is the Real Deal and has been to WrestleMania (for 89 seconds) and main evented SummerSlam and is a 3-time Tag Team Champ who is about to cause more damage than anyone has ever seen.
Derrick then showed a Heath Slater's Greatest Hits Video, which was just pictures of Heath losing over and over again.
I like that Derrick had this prepared just in case Heath would come out and brag about his win. The fans got into this by chanting “loser” at Heath.
Heath goes for a cheap shot, but is sent packing.
Maxine struts out, looking like “a street hooker” (tm my friend Joan) to kiss Derrick before her match.
Match #2
Maxine vs Alicia Fox
For those who care, Alicia was the Pro for Maxine in Season 3. 3 weeks ago Maxine called Alicia a waste of space.
23 seconds into the match Johnny Curtis power walked out and yelled that Maxine never called her back. Alicia rolled Maxine up and that's it!
Winner: Alicia Fox
Time: 0:40
-John Cena video package time.
Backstage Maxine is looking for Curtis and roughs up a random dude in a suit. She runs into Kaitlyn who says Maxine is always looking for a reason to talk to Curtis. Maxine accuses Kaitlyn of having a thing for Derrick. Kaitlyn sighed and walked off.
Johnny Curtis walked out of a random locker room as Maxine walked away.
MAIN EVENT TIME!
Match #3
Percy Watson & Alex Riley vs Titus O'Neil & Darren Young.
Titus and Darren teamed up in July to lose to Daniel Bryan and Derrick Bateman.
If this match went 40 seconds I wouldn't cry. It didn't, but Darren got a 1 count off of a shoulder block. The fans began booing at Darren's lengthy rest hold.
Percy got the back with a series of leap frogs and an armdrag. Darren escaped to the outside, but Percy dove to the outside after him.
Darren back suplexes Percy onto the ring apron to get the heat and finally tags out.
Titus almost gets disqualified by stomping on Percy for a 4 ¾ count in the corner. Alex tries to help out, but the referee cuts him off, allowing the heels to double team Percy briefly.
Darren brings Percy oh so close to Alex's outstretched hand, but beats him down. Percy fires back briefly, but gets beaten down by both Titus and Darren.
Darren is rummaging around in his knee pad, hopefully for an International Object. Percy finally makes the hot tag to A-Ry, who hits a spine buster on Darren, followed by an Impaler DDT for a close 2 count.
We have a Pier 6 Brawl as Titus and Percy fight out of the ring. Titus sends Percy into the ring apron and makes a blind tag, finishing off Riley with the Clash of the Titus!
Winners: Titus O'Neil & Darren Young
Time: 7:25
That is it for this week! See you next week and if you have any questions, comments, concerns or emotional outbursts, please send them my way at ewitner@yahoo.com!
