That would make you a Libertarian. Turning back the clock on gay rights, expanding the drug war, getting the federal government involved in abortion, and borrowing money from China to fund undeclared wars in Iraq & Afghanistan is NOT smaller government.

You ftw.
You do know libertarians are generally opposed to the healthcare bill and other Democratic ideas, right?

My biggest gripe with Libertarianism is their stance on healthcare. For me, healthcare is more of a moral issue than an economical one. I've been a staunch opponent of a healthcare-for-profit industry for many years. And I've heard every counterpoint imaginable to my position, but when you strip away the ideologies and economic philosophies, the very core argument is life and death.
It's not that I don't have my gripes with the healthcare industry (oh I DO). It's that I don't trust the government to do it any better. They've given me no reason to. They fuck everything up.

Can't fuck it up anymore than what the private sector does to people on a regular basis.

Agree to disagree, my friend. But I've seen too many times when government tried to "fix" a bad situation, only to cause even worse unintended consequences. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
I go by what an actual medical doctor says. Dr. Ron Paul says that in the '60s, when healthcare was even more free market than it is now, it worked FAR better than it does to day, or ever will when nationalized.

Our government couldn't properly run a lemonade stand.
It's not because government sucks. It's because we've elected incompetent leaders who allowed bureaucracy, lobbying, special interests and above all else, money, to persuade legislation.
And we elect these people because they know what voters want to hear. It's not that they're actually gonna DO it, per se. They can always blame someone else on why it doesn't get done.
America doesn't do big things anymore. Obstructionism prevents progress. So everything we do moves at a glacial rate instead of a speed that is needed and required to keep government spending efficient.
So, yeah, I know everytime America works on healthcare reform it will be minimal and have limited effectiveness. But I simply cannot accept a free market approach to healthcare reform as a viable alternative. Doctors deserve to make great money and tort reform should be done, but I will not waver on my disdain for profits to be made off the sick.

Yeah, but a lot in healthcare and the insurance industry has changed over the last 50 years. Pre-existing conditions for example. I don't know for certain here, but I'm pretty sure that people were not turned down because they had leukemia or cancer at one point in their lives back then. To put the blame solely on government is unfair. If insurance companies keep trying to nickel-and-dime their customers and change the rules, then government had to intervene.

I love how Healthcare is of no concern to me, nor is gay rights or abortion shit.
However, Mr. Harper is all for getting rid of long gun registry, because honestly all of our shooting deaths are a bunch of dumb gangsta wannabes with ILLEGAL handguns, i swear not one murder here has been from a registered, law abiding citizen who has a handgun in like YEARS.

It's simple economics, guys. I don't care what side of the political spectrum you are on. Businesses will always only create jobs to the point they actually NEED TO. The only incentive to create a job is the need to have someone doing it. Having more money is not an incentive to make a job, because you have no reason to waste money on someone who adds nothing to your business. The ONLY incentive to create more jobs is to force companies to actually create positions for people to fulfill. They can only do this if you force them to stop removing jobs from the country.
That's a simple line of logic that should be very obvious. Tax breaks or not is not a job creation incentive on its own.

Agreed on all points you've made, Lancers. That is what I was trying to say the other night. If people give in to defeatism, they get what they deserve.
And glad Philly is coming back too.

One day I had it all, the next day I didn't. Please be smarter than me and don't find yourself in this same situation. Actually be a proper human being for once!

Wow. Just wow.
No, believe it or not, companies actually like hiring good workers who will do a good job and make money for the company. If the business pays less in taxes and faces less regulation, they are far more likely to do so.
As far as outsourcing, it's a very good thing. Sending shit jobs oversees frees up more capital to hire more workers for better jobs here at home.
THAT'S simple economics.
Forcing people and businesses to do things is imoral, and does not work.

Ayn Rand makes it sound wonderful but I'm afraid it simply hasn;t worked out that way. Businesses have a lot of leeway nowadays and even in this recession they sit on money, and haven't been hiring people lately. That's the real cause of the economy tanking. People are willing and able to work and on top of sometimes being unqualified, businesses simply aren't hiring. Sometimes because they themselves aren't generating money in what becomes a vicious cycle.
Shipping jobs overseas is something taht really angers me. That's taking money away from American workers to benefit the company's bottom line. Granted, bringing domestic jobs back might raise prices on goods, but more people would be employed, so perhaps it will even out. It would also reduce confusion ove rthe phone when I call about computer problems and get some dude in India who I can't for the life of me understand the accent of.
Globalization helps no one. And it also destroys local business.
Businesses sacrificing all of these concerns just so top management can profit is what's truly immoral.

I'm torn.
I got my vote by mail ballot yesterday.
Part of me says for "Just vote for Obama" but the other part of me says "Obama will win California anyway...Roseanne is on the ballot...when else in your life will you be able to say you voted for Roseanne for President"?
...I don't know...Looking at her website she believes student loans enslave people into debt the moment they start higher education, that we should produce more green jobs and energy, equal rights for all and the elimination of the Federal Reserve. That's pretty tempting.

Roseannes pretty outspoken about her support of the Occupy movement and how she feels on the corruption of the modern political process. People scoff because she's a celebrity but I'd take her over Obama or Roney in a heartbeat given her stance on those issues.

I think all the people who don't want to pay taxes shouldn't have to. But, they are also not allowed to use public roads, parks, or any other public service that those tax dollars would have paid for.
