Sad day to be a lifelong Chargers fan.

It is being reported that the gunshot wound was to the chest and was most likely self-inflicted. Horrible, horrible news. I actually heard the news break on a fluke listening to NFL Sirius radio on my way home.

Why are football players more and more dropping like flies or pro wrestlers?
Seau was a Hall of Fame monster for San Diego.

Damn. I liked Seau. Damn. Took me back to what happened to one of my favorite players ever, Andre Waters.
As a lover of hard-hitting football it all gives me such conflicted thoughts.

Just read the topic on Fox Sports News. I never realized how many of the 94 San Diego Chargers are dead now. (took a cut from theyre website)
Accidents, illness and the bizzare have all struck the 1994 Chargers. The tragic list: • Linebacker David Griggs wrecked his car in Davie, Fla., in 1995. Tests showed he was legally drunk. He was 28. • Running back Rodney Culver was killed in the ValuJet airplane crash in Florida in 1996. He was 26. • Linebacker Doug Miller was struck by lightning in 1998 in Colorado. He was 28. • Center Curtis Whitley died of a drug overdose in 2008. He was 39. • Defensive end Chris Mims died from an enlarged heart in 2008. He was 38. • Defensive lineman Shawn Lee suffered a heart attack in February 2011. He was 44. • Linebacker Lew Bush also suffered a heart attack, in December 2011. He was 42. • Seau died of a gunshot wound to the chest, which police are investigating as a suicide. He was 43.
It mustve been the headshots that made him act erratic, I also wonder if never winning the big one contributed to some depression aswell.

For this big a name to take his life at relatively young is just going to ad more fuel to debates over public safety. I wounder if this could be a Benoit like moment for the NFL.

It's comparable in someone who was widely respected doing this suddenly..although Seau won't be vilified for eternity because like you said, he didn't kill anyone else. If anything it's more of a tragedy in the sense that Seau was flat out loved EVERYWHERE he played and was very very involved in the community here in San Diego with his charities, etc.
